Merrily We Roll Along

Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s Merrily We Roll Along is a powerful musical about three friends, all artists - composer Frank Shepard, playwright Charley Kringas, and novelist Mary Flynn. The show begins in 1976 and rolls backwards to 1957, illuminating the pivotal moments in Frank’s rise to fame along with the deterioration of his friendship with Charley and Mary. While the beginning is a picture of broken bonds, the end is a heart-warming and heart-wrenching scene of blossoming friendship. “Our Time” foretells a future for the three that we know did not come to be.
