Exclamation Point & An Act Without Words
by Soleil Piverger
Exclamation Point & An Act Without Words follows the story of runaway Leela Lo Lottle, the littlest Lo, as she finds a shelter with a treacherous family at Exclamation Point off the Questionable Coast, past the Uncertain Sea. This “shelter” leaves her feeling trapped and isolated from who she once was and who she might become.
An Act Without Words concludes the play and deals with questions of female autonomy amidst geographical and familial displacement. Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s series of “acts without words” and Bruce Nauman’s “Lip-Sync,” this portion of the show deals with how language relates (or doesn’t relate) to the body. I hope to explore with the actors and designers how characters are fabricated and how they become disembodied, embodied, and re-membered. Also featuring reworkings of Emily Dickinson’s poetry, this play tells the story of a girl who runs away only to return back to herself.
The show is an original play written and directed by Soleil Piverger ‘27 and produced by Kemi Tela ‘27. The show will run from October 9th - 11th in the Iseman theater (1156 Chapel Street).
