Antony and Cleopatra
by William Shakespeare
Called Venus, whore, and queen, Cleopatra has captured imaginations since she first tumbled out of a carpet at Julius Caesar’s feet. In our production of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, we will find passion in politics and superego within seduction. As Cleopatra captures the heart of her Roman general, so too will this play captivate the imagination of its audience, creating an immersive experience of intercourse, intrigue, and “infinite variety.”Over the course of the semester, we will explore the play through close reading, physical exercises, and workshopping. This process will allow us to grasp the nuances of Shakespeare’s text within the rehearsal room, and give designers and actors alike the opportunity to collaborate in creating a unified vision for this sprawling work.
