Sweat

The First Dramat Fall Ex

by Lynn Nottage

The sillhoeutte of two women in shadow of a glass of beer

A group of friends who regularly convene inside of the walls of a neighborhood bar in Reading, Pennsylvania share a bond stronger than the liquor they drink. But when the steel mill they all work at offers a promotion to one of them while also laying off long time employees in favor of non union latino workers for less money, tensions begin to rise. The bar, which was once an escape from the hardships of working class life, now showcases the conflicts which threaten to break the relationships that formed within it. Light cannot exist without darkness, and Sweat begs the audience to see not only how this manifests itself in the characters, but how we let it manifest in ourselves.
