Homecoming: A New Musical

A TDPS Senior Thesis in Musical Theater Composition for Serena Saotome Feniger

by Serena Saotome Feniger and Sam Ahn

Homecoming: A New Musical Poster

Junko, a successful banker with a husband and three kids, has seemingly achieved the American Dream. But when she returns to her native Japan for her father’s funeral, an unexpected ask from her mother threatens to unearth what has come at the cost of that model life.

This Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies Thesis in Musical Theater Composition will explore the nuances of mixed Asian heritage, what it means to call a place home, and how musical theater can be used as an art form to further Asian representation and highlight cultural experiences.
