Audition For The Lonesome West

Audition Instructions:

Two brothers. One inheritance. A shotgun under the table. What could go wrong?

In The Lonesome West, Tony winning playwright Martin McDonagh conjures dark comedy in the living room of a quaint home on the edge of a rural Irish town. Two adult brothers squabble like adolescents over the inheritance left to them by their recently deceased father, who may or may not have been killed by one of his sons. Their only hope for salvation lies with a schoolgirl (who also happens to be their bootleg whiskey dealer) and an alcoholic priest. Can their souls be saved before bloody carnage ensues? Are they even worth saving?

ROLES:

Father Welsh (M): Early 30s. A local priest heavy with self-doubt. He believes saving the Connor brothers is his way to salvation.

Girleen Kelleher (F): 17. A local poteen peddler secretly in love with Father Welsh.

ON ACCENTS:

The play will be performed in a western Irish dialect. If you have the time to prepare one that would be great, but an accent isn’t necessary for the audition.

Will be held in LC 203. Callbacks and chemistry reads will be this coming monday afternoon/evening. Reach out to phil.schneider@yale.edu if you want to read for a role but can’t make it saturday or sunday. The play goes up April 14-16.
