Gypsy “may be the greatest of all American musicals” - Ben Brantley Inspired by the memoirs of the legendary burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee, this gripping story follows the ultimate stage mother Rose, determined to catapult her daughters to stardom on the waning 1920s vaudeville circuit. Assembled by the magical team of Arthur Laurents, Jule Styne, and Stephen Sondheim, Gypsy took Broadway by storm when it first opened in 1959, directed by Jerome Robbins. Gypsy depicts the grit hiding behind the glitz and glamour of showbusiness.
This Gypsy will bring the show to a new audience in a new era while paying homage to its Golden Age roots. A senior project in American Studies for Ethan Karetsky. For tickets: e-mail gypsyatyale@gmail.com
