YBOP presents L’EGISTO

by Francesco Cavalli

YBOP presents L'Egisto

The Yale Baroque Opera Project (YBOP) presents Cavalli’s L’Egisto, April 28-29 at the University Theatre, in a new production by Dustin Wills, stage director, with music direction by Grant Herreid.

L’Egisto, composed in 1643 by Francesco Cavalli (libretto by Giovanni Faustini) is a classic Italian Baroque opera about love and its pleasures, pains, hopes, disappointments, absurdities, and eventual triumphs.

Founded in 2007, YBOP has provided Yale students the opportunity to explore historical and aesthetic studies related to Italian opera from the 17th and early 18th centuries. The students’ coursework culminates with a full-scale professional opera production which serves to promote the study and performance of Baroque opera at both Yale and beyond. Featuring undergraduate singers, and undergraduate, graduate and professional instrumentalists from the Yale community, L’Egisto is free and open to the public.
