You may have seen the star-studded film adaptation featuring Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field, and Dolly Parton - yet the incredibly colorful characters that they brought to life originated in Harling’s 1987 play whose title is a tribute to its female characters who are “as delicate as magnolias but also as tough as steel”. They laugh. They cry. They get their hair done. No prior experience necessary.
