Rhinoceros

Join the (r)evolution.

by Eugène Ionesco, translated by Derek Prouse

Poster of Rhinoceros

How did we get there, and how do we always manage to find our way back? This hallmark of the French absurdist movement, originally written as a response to the rise of European fascism in the twentieth century, applies across all demarcations of time and place, and explores the failure of logic in the face of emotion and the tendency of history to repeat itself. One day a man’s humdrum life finally changes when an epidemic strikes his city that is transforming citizens into rhinoceroses. The story chronicles how he copes during the first days of the plague.
