Poster of One of Those Things

In One of Those Things: some music by Cole Porter&nbsp Henry Gottfried ‘14 uses selections from the Porter catalogue to sing about an undergrad love life (or lack thereof) in 2013. In this solo cabaret act (and senior project), Henry will perform some of Cole Porter’s greatest songs (plus a few others, and a few other songs by a few other writers) along with a small band of some of Yale’s best musicians.

Cole Porter, who graduated from Yale College 100 years ago, wrote hundreds of songs during his years in New Haven; the aspiring songwriter would go on to write some of the most beautiful and enduring songs of the last century - songs of love, longing, and heartbreak. What kinds of romantic experiences might young undergrad Cole have had here that began to shape his songwriting? And if Cole were a student at Yale today, what might his love life look like…as told by his own songs? This concert doesn’t necessarily purport to answer these questions. One of Those Things runs a little over an hour.
