Faceworks/Body as Memoir

A Senior Project in Theater and Performance Studies for David Donnan and Isabel Menon
Poster image that reads 'Body As Memoir' at the top in purple letters and "Facework" at the bottom in green letters.
Facework is a tribute to pop culture, and the power it has to help people see themselves. Through a devising process that marries performance art, theater, and pop culture, Facework explores the multifaceted and embodied emotions of gayness and genderqueerness in the 21st century.

Body as Memoir is an eight-volume movement research project which construes the body as an archive of lived experience. The project operates under the notion that our pasts are written into our muscles; it endeavors to not only access that information, but to decipher and translate it through choreographic process. The show comprises eight pieces, which correspond to eight semesters of college, striving to move a story rather than write it: to carve a memoir through space rather than put it to paper.
