CANCELLED: Self Made

a queer new play

by Kara Hadden

self made audition poster

This new play by emerging playwright Kara Hadden follows the relationship between two women, Eleanor and Ren, over their senior year at a small liberal arts college in Western Massachusetts. When Ren wins a prestigious $50,000 fellowship to create performance art in New York City after graduation, Eleanor begins to fret over her own post-grad decisions, the future of their relationship, and the type of person she wants to become.

Self Made is a meditation on identity, respectability politics, the necessity of (queer) self-invention, and what it means to be in college at the end of the 2010s. This timely piece explores our “post-gay” cultural moment by investigating the liminal space between genres, generations, and queer theory/practice.
