“For me, the real impact of the Sudler Prize came not right after graduation, but in the murkier space of my late twenties. Transitioning away from acting, I felt adrift in the question of whether to keep working in theater. The Sudler reminded me that acting had only ever been one segment of my creative life; maybe that reframing eventually tapped me back into the curiosity and joy that I’d felt as a playwriting student at Yale. Curiosity, in turn, encouraged me to gamble on myself as I moved to Asheville and started to write plays about the American South(s)”.
