2. Please sign up for an audition and choose one of the slides below. Auditions will run from 7-9pm from Jan 20th-23th (Please reach out if no audition slots work for you). If not auditioning in person, please make sure to choose of of these slides for your character and self-tape your audition by January 23th! Logline: After finding out that John Cena is coming to Connecticut, Rekha embarks on a road trip to WrestleMania with her WWE-obsessed grandmother (Nani Ma) to meet Nani Ma’s favorite wrestler. Through this journey, they finally open up about their experiences with domestic violence and mental illness, reclaiming power through intergenerational love, honest conversations, and unexpectedly beating people up— John Cena-style.

 

We will be shooting in New Haven, CT from March 20th to March 25th (We are open to changing these dates if absolutely necessary). Meals and travel/housing accommodations will be provided. Auditions will be held January 20th-24th.

Cast Descriptions: 

 

REKHA (18, South Asian) is a high school senior who struggles with anxiety. While usually passive, Rekha has
internal anger issues, imagining herself as a wrestler beating people up. She shares a warm, comfortable
relationship with her grandmother. **Role involves learning stage combat, driving, and speaking Hindi.

NANI MA (70s, South Asian) is strong, outgoing, youthful, provocative, and honest. She loves John Cena and watching WWE. Nani Ma wants to teach Rekha to stand up for herself. **Role involves learning stage combat and speaking Hindi.

MR. WRIGHT (20s-30s) is a hipster art teacher who is harsh and a fierce advocate for tough love. He also loves his matcha. **Role involves learning stage combat.

JOE (20s, white) is a slimy, aggressive, and generally weird ticket scalper. **Role involves learning stage combat.

WWE COMMENTATOR (20s-30s): This will be an offscreen role. Looking for someone loud, bold, and spirited.

SECURITY GUARDS (20s-30s): They are strong, scary, and stoic. They get beat up by Rekha and Nani Ma.
**Especially looking for wrestlers or MMA fighters but not required.

EXTRAS (quite a few of them) to be students in a classroom and part of a crowd watching the fight scenes.
