‘1999’ is a four-song visual extended play (EP) with music composed by Baltazar Lora (under the stage name TROPIC) and film directed by Tiffany Ng. It is a coming of age story that addresses the fear and uncertainty that comes with growing up and moving to college. Specifically focusing on the friendship between two girls — Maya and Chelsea — the film captures the pair treading on the blurred line between friendship and romance.
Maya — the female lead — is a fairly introverted young woman, observant, reserved, and shy. Conservative in her approach to life, whether that be diligence in academics or abiding to rules, Maya is the responsible one of the two. She is giving and kind, always willing to go the extra mile for others. Her willingness to give and sensitivity to those around her often alludes to a tendency to swallow emotions and overthinking. Maya is fairly distant to her family. While they all live under the same roof, Maya confides almost exclusively in Chelsea. With Chelsea, Maya is her true self.
Chelsea is Maya’s best friend and love interest. She’s wild and free-spirited, a strong proponent of spontaneity who pushes Maya to step out of her comfort zone and try new things. Having grown up with Maya, Chelsea acts as a middleman between Maya and her family. She has a unique understanding of Maya, with the special ability to comprehend Maya’s inner thoughts and emotions with no verbal communication. Despite being the ‘reckless’ one of the two, Chelsea is more emotionally mature. She acts almost as a maternal figure in certain respects of their relationship.
We are looking to cast two female actresses for the roles of Maya and Chelsea! Auditions are posted for 1/24, 1/25, and 1/28. Audition sides are below, and ALL AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD IN BASS L30C. Hope to see you there!!
