The Colored Museum
by George C. Wolfe
Heritage Theatre Ensemble presents The Colored Museum, George C. Wolfe’s satirical interpretation of race relations in America told in eleven vignettes. An exhibition of black representation, the play illuminates the taboo, embraces the stereotype, celebrates the tragic, and honors the Black American experience through a mosaic of theatre. Spanning two hundred years of history, The Colored Museum explores the ways in which the creation of a Black-American identity must often be at odds with the tenets of an American identity, a construction which often excludes or ignores the unique pain, rage, and struggle brought on by the legacy of slavery.
