In this workshop we will discuss dramaturgy as a function, as a role, and as a career in a cross-cultural context, laying particular emphasis on the dramaturg’s illustrious origins in Germany. Is the dramaturg a facilitator? Interlocutor for playwrights and directors? In-house critic? Generative artist? Eye of God? Whom or what does the she ultimately serve?All are welcome! No experience or foreknowledge necessary. In preparation for the workshop, please read Hamletmachine (attached), a very short play by the great East German dramaturg and playwright Heiner Müller.The workshop will take place 4:00-6:00 PM on Friday, Feb. 28th in LC 209.Jessica Rizzo is an MFA candidate in the dramaturgy and dramatic criticism program at the Yale School of Drama and a managing editor of Theater Magazine.
