Yale Dance Theater: Inheriting Ailey

Yale Dance Theater’s spring 2015 project focuses on the influence of Alvin Ailey on the next generation of artists working today. Matthew Rushing, a featured dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT), is creating a new dance exclusively for YDT. Renee Robinson, another celebrated Ailey dancer, will stage an excerpt from the early Ailey ballet Blues Suite (1958).Forming his company in the late 1950s, Ailey promoted African American cultural forms while simultaneously embracing cultural hybridity. Just as Ailey looked both to the past and the future in dance, this production will look backward and forward at once.More information can be found at: Yale Dance Lab.
