Untitled Song Cycle

This song cycle will loosely track the relationship between a pious, overbearing mother and her son who is exploring his queer/trans identity against the backdrop of the deep, rural South. Through a series of somewhat connected snapshots from both of their lives, this piece will explore how both figures turn to religion in times of struggle, as well as respond to the pressures of race and class as people of color in a largely white community.
