Skilled young tap dancer Marty McFlap dreams of becoming a professional tap dancer, but the path to fame and success has proven longer than his tapping feet anticipated. So when his eccentric friend Dr. Emmett “Tap” Brown says he’s finally invented the perfect tap shoe—a shoe that will give Marty the fastest feet in the history of dance—Marty throws those shoes on and laces them up. Little does he know, though, that after all of Doc Tap’s tinkering, the shoes are capable of tapping at a rate of 1.21 GigaWaltz—fast enough to rend the very fabric of space and time!

As Marty begins to prepare for his big performance with Taps at Yale, his paradiddles get faster and faster, and the tap shoe time machines suddenly throw him into the past, leaving him lost in time. Will Marty be able to Tap to the Future and make his way back in time for the show?
