The Talks

A Melting Pot of Nonsense

by Lavanya Sinha

The Talks: Written and Directed by Lavanya Sinha, Produced by Michael Garman, Stage Managed by Aaron Mesa

The Talks is where the ordinary is made nonsensical. Written as an experiment in Fate and Chance, all the dialogue in the play is conversation from the author’s life over the course of Reading Week, Fall 2022. The characters, stage directions, and other elements have been written in based on coin tosses, random intuitions, and what the author calls Jackson Pollock Style Inspiration, where they used a pen and, as their coin instructed, makeup, to draw a scene as they wrote it - adding things neither deliberately nor randomly, but somewhere in between. It is a world of giant mushrooms and jigsaw puzzles, of Catholic Guilt and distinctively pink pants. You may even find out how many babies can or cannot fit in a washing machine.
