Stone and Sparrow
A senior project for Laurel Durning-Hammond
by Alex Ratner & Laurel Durning-Hammond
A folk musical set in Appalachia during the late 1920’s, Stone and Sparrow follows a family’s journey through the exciting but ultimately devastating shift to living in a coal mining camp town. As a production seminar, THST 407 will consist of the production of a new musical exploring the people and music of Appalachia in the early twentieth century. Study of the history, mores, and culture of the period as preparation for staging the play. An exploration of putting up a new work and originating roles.
