“A film can be like a rocket, shot from the past into the future, or like a time-bomb, buried in the present, waiting to explode”

The Fall is a lecture-performance about film and revolution, based on Peter Whitehead’s cult 1968 movie, The Fall. Shot in New York City, 1968, the film documents the collapse of the protest movement. Failing to find distribution because of the violence it documents, the film-maker, Peter Whitehead, abandoned the idea of art as part of social change, and moved to the highest mountain in Saudi Arabia to breed falcons for the next 20 years. Meanwhile, the film found its own life, being screened in universities from Athens to Tehran on the eve of revolutions, and inspiring students to occupy their universities and take to the streets.
