Maria Friedman is an eight-time Laurence Olivier Award nominee, winning three. Her first win was for the 1994 one-woman show, By Special Arrangement. She has also twice won Best Actress in a Musical, for the original London productions of Passion and Ragtime. More recently, she was nominated for the Tony Award for best Direction of a Musical for the Tony winning revival of Merrily We Roll Along starring Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe, and Lindsay Mendez and music directed on Broadway by Shen faculty member Joel Fram.
