The Real Thing
by Tom Stoppard
“I lived it and put my guts into it, and you came along and wrote it clever.” So says Brodie, a seemingly radical thug, to Henry, a playwright who handles his plays and his life by writing them clever. But after Henry falls in love with Annie - despite his being married to Charlotte and Annie being married to Max - he struggles to maintain a relationship that can survive adultery, pop music, and the passage of time. Stoppard’s The Real Thing is a play about the commitments we make, the people we cling to, and the causes that keep us fighting.
