Princess Ida
The Yale Gilbert and Sullivan Society 2009 Spring Mainstage Production
by W. S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan
Prince Hilarion and Princess Ida have been betrothed since infanthood. Twenty years later, Ida has forsworn the world of men and started a Ladies’ College. Hilarion and his friends infiltrate the college, dressed in drag, to reclaim his love. Just as they are discovered, Hilarion’s father brings forth a full scale attack upon Ida’s Castle Adamant. Though one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s lesser-known works, Princess Ida features a magnificent score and a very funny story.
