A Life Reenactment

by Sofía Ruvira

Play about femininity performed in Galician and English

A Life Reenactment is a theater play based on personal stories of the director and actors, as well as excerpts of text by nobel-award winner writer Annie Ernaux. It explores themes such as femininity, domesticity and memory and is written in Galician (a minoritized language from Northwestern Spain) and English. The play aims to delve into the actors’ memories in order to find places of desire, aims and wishes, in order to portray femininity. It places common daily life in the center of the dramatic experience. It also seeks to showcase the double marginalized condition of womanhood-language, in order to revert the narrative by creating different persona(s) that will be enacting situations of appropriation.
