by hildegard von bingen / guillaume machaut / henry purcell / alexander scriabin / earle brown / john cage / kaija saariaho
Gallery + [less than a grain of dust] renders stillness, warmth, and tensions between linear, cyclical, and discrete time-point theories of history. In dialogue with Thomas Wilfred’s Lumia, we offer a program of musical works composed across a span of 800 years, from the 12th century polymath and Christian mystic Hildegard von Bingen to contemporary Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, exploring what meanings are made through deconstructing historical space and place. The performance will feature eleven musicians from Yale College and the Yale School of Music, and will last approximately one hour.
