Cober Street

A reading of a new play

by Grace Campos

The year is 1983. Ana Morales and her family have moved from Mexico City to Grand Prairie, Texas––a sleepy Southern city where Friday night football reigns supreme. They live in a three bedroom house on Cober street––an area controlled by gang violence and cowboy culture. After a chance encounter at a local bar, Ana falls in love with country music––and the town’s budding young star, Charlie Rider. Committed to her new dream of becoming the first Mexican-American country artist, she’ll have to balance her responsibilities at the family tortilla factory, her disapproving parents, and the racism of the suburban South.
