10.02

a senior thesis installation by Nicole Ahsan
10.02 poster

10.02 invites participants on a ten-minute, two-second audio-visual exploration of grief, death, and what it means to remember someone who is no longer here. From the spaces our lost loved ones occupied, to the places they’ll never see, our memories of them shift and transform as we continue on. 10.02 builds the architecture for thoughtful reflection and pause amidst the throes and demands of the outside world, and especially, at Yale. This immersive experience serves as a deconstruction and companion piece to Nicole’s senior thesis documentary, which reflects on her experiences of losing her mother while she was a sophomore at Yale. The installation offers the opportunity for communal recognition of the unavoidable experience of losing someone we love. In an effort to expand beyond the linear narrative of a film, the installation immerses visitors within an array of voices, experiences, and emotions. Above all, 10.02 hopes to be a small, but deliberate step toward normalizing conversations surrounding death and grieving.
