On Strivers Row
by Abram Hill

“Reputation is only what your worst enemy thinks!” ~ Tillie Petunia
On Strivers Row is a comedy about a wealthy black family in Harlem in the 90s. The play takes place over the course of one day during which the matriarch of the family, Dolly Van Striven, is trying to throw an elaborate debutante dinner for her daughter Cobina. Unfortunately, her social enemy, Tillie Petunia, has a plot to ruin the party, and it is only made easier by the arrival of unexpected guests who seem to have no understanding of the etiquette that is expected on the Row. All hell breaks loose as the cast of family, friends, enemies, lovers and lottery winners all try to make it through one nice evening at the Van Striven residence.
