‘night, Mother

In Marsha Norman’s Pulitzer-winning play ’night, Mother, middle-aged Jessie disrupts a quiet evening with her mother, Thelma, when she reveals that she plans to commit suicide that night. Over the ensuing ninety minutes, Jessie prepares her mother for the aftermath of her death, while Thelma tries to prevent it. Through hyper-naturalist dialogue, the play dissects the realities of suicide, chronic illness, and the struggle to find meaning in a lonely life.
